How to Watch Wimbledon Online for Free

It’s a great time of year for sports fans, there’s the Cricket World Cup 2019, the Women’s World Cup and now one of my favourites it’s Wimbledon! The oldest and arguably the most prestigious tennis tournament has just begun at the All-England Club in SW19. What’s more it looks like we’re going to have some great weather which usually leads to an exciting competition. For British tennis fans, we even have Andy Murray although just in the double’s events.

Here’s a little summary from Time which sets the scene, and below this you’ll find the great news on how to watch Wimbledon Online for free without any problems whatsoever.

Starting Monday and continuing through July 14, the world’s top tennis stars will battle it out on the grass courts for the world’s oldest tennis tournament title. After a dramatic first round that included 15-year-old Cori Gauff upsetting veteran Venus Williams, the second round of men and women’s singles starts on Wednesday and continues through Thursday, July 4.

For the  next two weeks, players will face off on the courts at the All-England Club in Wimbledon, London, in front of more than 473,000 fans — including some A-list royals. On Tuesday, tennis fan Kate Middleton sat in the crowd before heading to the royal box to watch fellow Brit Harriet Dart battle American Christina McHale.

The 142-year-old tournament is one of four Grand Slam tournaments, along with the U.S. Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open. Important Wimbledon matches, including the finals, will be played on the famed Centre Court.

On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are seeded in the top three slots. –

Now normally this can be a little tricky especially if you want the UK coverage from the BBC. This is because due to licensing restriction, even though the BBC is a public broadcaster the content is not actually accessible from outside the United Kingdom.  If you tried to watch or listen to coverage from any country outside the UK, you’d get blocked when you connect.

This issue can be circumvented quite easily by using a VPN which will hide your location and allow you to pretend you’re actually in the UK. This allows full access to all UK TV stations online including the BBC which will work perfectly wherever you are. So, if you enjoy the BBC commentary then this is the option you need to select, just check out the home page of this site and you’ll see how it works – https://uktvabroad.org/ Well worth checking out as a cheap and reliable way to watch any UK television from anywhere in the world – but this year you don’t need this for Wimbledon either.

For the first time ever the English Lawn Tennis club will actually be streaming live coverage of the entire tournament on their website. Just visit their site and alongside the usual scores and information you’ll see a video and a radio link which you can click to access. Now it seems that amazingly this is not geo-restricted like just about everything else on the internet, so you should be able to watch it from anywhere.

Here’s the site – https://www.wimbledon.com/

I have checked it from France and the UK, and it works fine so I presume it will work anywhere in the world. Please let me know if it doesn’t though and I’ll stop confusing people on this site! Not sure what the live commentary is like, but the video stream looked high quality and some of the features before the games have been excellent with very high production levels.   Frankly I’m amazed that Wimbledon 2019 is being made available like this with so many world class sporting events restricted to high-cost subscription channels and even then, restricted by geo-location blocks too.   You can also watch the full BBC coverage on the iPlayer website from Spain or wherever using a VPN.  Plus, you can catch up with all the scores and results if you watch the BBC News live on BBC1 or the News channel.

So hopefully this starts something new, so check out the Wimbledon 2019 Schedule of Play below and head over to the site to enjoy the tennis!

The Wimbledon TV coverage 2019 is of course like the above schedule heavily dependent on the weather, so this will change if any significant disruptions.  I’ll update the Wimbledon 2019 dates if that happens.
